What's New
There are no changes to Nissan’s Maxima as it enters its eighth and final model year. This big sedan bows out with only one engine and transmission configuration, with modest pricing differences between its three trim levels.
Choosing Your Nissan Maxima
The three-model Maxima range starts with SV trim, costing $39,235 including destination. The mid-range SR costs $44,395 and the flagship Platinum will set you back a modest $45,345, swapping SR’s performance-focused mechanicals for greater comfort.
Engine Choices
Every Maxima is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 gas engine, generating 300 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque. This is supplied to the front wheels using a CVT transmission. Fuel economy stands at an EPA-estimated 20 miles per gallon city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 combined.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | MPG (City/Highway/Combined) |
3.5 V6 | 300 hp | 261 lb-ft | 20/30/24 mpg |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Cargo capacity for the five-seater Maxima stands at 14.3 cu ft with the rear seats in place.
Safety Features
Nissan has incorporated plenty of standard safety into every Maxima. Driver aids include intelligent cruise control and driver alertness monitors, with forward collision warnings incorporating automatic emergency braking if a pedestrian is detected. There are blind-spot, rear cross-traffic, and lane departure warnings, a rear sonar system combined with automatic rear braking, high beam assist, and traffic sign recognition. Higher trims additionally gain an around-view monitor, sonar at both ends of the vehicle, and intelligent lane intervention.
Connectivity
The Maxima’s infotainment system is powered though an eight-inch touchscreen, with navigation and WiFi hotspot capabilities across the range. The stock stereo is an eight-speaker CD affair with satellite radio, while smartphone integration is standard alongside a mix of USB-A and C sockets. SR and Platinum models benefit from an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system and active noise cancellation.
2023 Nissan Maxima SV – MSRP From $39,235
The cheapest Maxima rides on 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, with intelligent LED headlights and matching daytime running lights. The powered and heated outside mirrors have LED turn signal indicators, while keyless entry accesses a cabin with dual-zone climate and remote engine starting. There’s eight-way power for the heated driver’s seat and four-way power for the passenger, while leather extends from the seats to the steering wheel and shift knob.
There are no packages on any Maxima model.
2023 Nissan Maxima SR – MSRP From $44,395
SR sports various mechanical improvements over SV, including retuned sports suspension and paddle shifters, 19-inch gloss black wheels, and matching quad-tipped exhaust finishers. Safety is enhanced by a surround monitor, front and rear sonar plus intelligent lane intervention. The biggest improvements lie inside, where Ascot leather seats sit below a dual-pane moonroof and adjustable ambient LED lighting. The driver’s seat gains thigh support extension and memory, while both front seats are ventilated, and the steering wheel is heated.
2023 Nissan Maxima Platinum – MSRP From $45,345
There are only modest differences between SR and Platinum, as the small price differential suggests. The latter receives illuminated kickplates, maple wood interior trim, and semi-aniline leather seats – these are heated in the rear where power sunshades are also situated. Memory settings extend to the steering wheel (over and above SR’s driver’s seat and outside mirror coverage), but Platinum loses SR’s paddle shifters and sports suspension.
Compare Maxima Trims Side-By-Side
Despite welcome safety upgrades on higher trims, SV is sufficiently well-equipped to satisfy most buyers, and it’ll save you over $5,000 in the bargain.
