The Chevy Avalanche's versatility comes from its Midgate configurations. Normally, the bed on the Avalanche is 5 foot 3 inches, however, when the Midgate is lowered, the bed is extended to eight feet. With the bed cover, the extendable bed offers eight feet of cargo space. Remove the cover and the vehicle can hold ATVs. Other small features make the Avalanche a versatile vehicle with flush bed lighting, foldaway tie-down hooks, and footholds and handholds for climbing onto the bed. Two trim levels are available, the 1500 with a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 producing 295 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque and the 2500 with a 8.1-liter V8 rated 320 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle is capable of towing 7,900 to 11,900 pounds, respectively. For 2005, changes are insignificant.
