The Porsche Cayenne is a 165-mph high-performance machine that will fit a family of five, haul a small washing machine, tow a large boat and get you carefully through the woods when there's no road.

The Cayenne model line now spans four variants: base, Tiptronic, S, and Turbo. The base Cayenne is powered by a narrow-angle, single-cylinder-head V6 producing 247 horsepower, and comes standard with full-time all-wheel drive with a high- and low-range. The Cayenne Tiptronic is identical to the base Cayenne, except that it's equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with Porsche's Tiptronic manual shift mode. Cayenne and Cayenne Tiptronic both come standard with sophisticated traction management and skid-control electronics. The Cayenne S comes standard with a 4.5-liter dohc V8 engine mated to a Tiptronic automatic. The Turbo gets a twin-turbocharged version of the V8 and a whopping 450 horsepower.

For 2005, the Porsche Cayenne has added useful standard equipment and introduced new option packages. Most significantly, it offers for the first time a 6-speed manual transmission.

Buying a 2005 Porsche Cayenne

Purchasing an older vehicle, such as the 2005 Porsche Cayenne, makes good financial sense. You're able to avoid the steep depreciation rates that occur with brand new vehicles. This essentially gives you the advantage of getting a 2005 Porsche Cayenne for less money than when it was new. If the 2005 Porsche Cayenne was properly maintained, you also have a good chance of steering clear of problems that would have developed when the car was new.

The amount you pay for an older car depends on various factors. One important element is where you buy the vehicle. You're likely to get a better deal if you buy it from a private party, as opposed to a dealer. On the other hand, a reputable dealer will normally have some kind of limited warranty, so you can drive away knowing that if the car breaks down right away, you'll be covered. Another factor that may affect price on a 2005 Porsche Cayenne is whether it's "certified" by the manufacturer. A certified vehicle will cost more because warranty service is provided that normally doesn't come with a used car.

Another dynamic that will play into the purchase price is the resale value. A used vehicle with a high resale value will obviously cost you more. It is expected that the 2005 Porsche Cayenne will have a good resale value. This assumes that the 2005 Porsche Cayenne is in good condition and has a reasonable number of miles.
