The Dodge Ram 1500 is Dodge's full sized pick up truck. It has a carrying capacity of 8,350 lbs and a bold, unique design that makes is unmistakable compared to its competitors.
The Ram comes with three cab options, a regular cab, a four door Quad Cab, and an extended quad cab called the Mega Cab. Bed lengths are also customizable and can be extended up to 20 inches. The entry-level engine for the Ram is the 3.7-liter overhead-cam V6, rated at 215 horsepower. A 4.7-liter V8 uses modern overhead-cam heads to generate 235 horsepower and the popular 5.7-liter Hemi produces 345 horsepower. At the top end of the scale is the 8.3-liter pushrod V10 in the SRT-10, rated 500 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque. A six speed manual transmission is standard on the 3.7-liter V6 or an optional four speed automatic. A five-speed automatic is optional with the 4.7-liter V8 and standard with the 5.7-liter V8 Hemi. The SRT-10 Regular Cab comes only with a six-speed manual gearbox; the SRT-10 Quad Cab comes only with a four-speed automatic.
For 2006, the Ram 1500 is completely restyled. The bumper fascia, grille, headlamps, fenders and wheels are all new. Additionally, a new hydroformed frame that boxes the vehicles full length provides more strength than in any previous Ram 1500. The Hemi-equipped Rams feature the new Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which shuts down four of the Hemi's eight cylinders when they are not needed.
Purchasing an older vehicle, such as the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500, makes good financial sense. You're able to avoid the steep depreciation rates that occur with brand new vehicles. This essentially gives you the advantage of getting a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 for less money than when it was new. If the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 was properly maintained, you also have a good chance of steering clear of problems that would have developed when the car was new.
The amount you pay for an older car depends on various factors. One important element is where you buy the vehicle. You're likely to get a better deal if you buy it from a private party, as opposed to a dealer. On the other hand, a reputable dealer will normally have some kind of limited warranty, so you can drive away knowing that if the car breaks down right away, you'll be covered. Another factor that may affect price on a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 is whether it's "certified" by the manufacturer. A certified vehicle will cost more because warranty service is provided that normally doesn't come with a used car.
Another dynamic that will play into the purchase price is the resale value. A used vehicle with a high resale value will obviously cost you more. It is expected that the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 will have a very good resale value. This assumes that the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 is in good condition and has a reasonable number of miles.
