The Jeep Commander offers a capability no Jeep has had before: three-row seating and the ability to carry seven passengers. Equipped with a higher level of safety and security features than any previous Jeep, the Commander represents the first salvo in Jeep's upcoming product offensive.

The Commander comes in two models, the Jeep Commander, and the Commander Limited. Two-wheel drive is standard, but 4WD is available for both the base model and the Limited. The base model Jeep Commander comes standard with a 3.7-liter SOHC V6, rated at 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission designed to balance performance and fuel economy. On 4WD models, the standard system is Jeep's Quadra-Trac I, which is an automatic full-time all-wheel-drive system enhanced by electronic traction control. The optional 5.7-liter Hemi V8, producing 330 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, is available with fuel-saving Multi-Displacement System technology, which shuts down cylinders as the opportunity arises under light load conditions.

The Jeep Commander is all new for 2006.

Buying a 2006 Jeep Commander

Purchasing an older vehicle, such as the 2006 Jeep Commander, makes good financial sense. You're able to avoid the steep depreciation rates that occur with brand new vehicles. This essentially gives you the advantage of getting a 2006 Jeep Commander for less money than when it was new. If the 2006 Jeep Commander was properly maintained, you also have a good chance of steering clear of problems that would have developed when the car was new.

The amount you pay for an older car depends on various factors. One important element is where you buy the vehicle. You're likely to get a better deal if you buy it from a private party, as opposed to a dealer. On the other hand, a reputable dealer will normally have some kind of limited warranty, so you can drive away knowing that if the car breaks down right away, you'll be covered. Another factor that may affect price on a 2006 Jeep Commander is whether it's "certified" by the manufacturer. A certified vehicle will cost more because warranty service is provided that normally doesn't come with a used car.
