OVERVIEW
The CLS500 is powered by Mercedes' familiar 306-horsepower 5-liter V8, but torque is sent to the rear wheels through a new seven-speed automatic transmission. Airmatic DC air suspension is standard, of course, along with Sensotronic brakes, ABS, Brake Assist and ESP. The CLS has probably the most inviting interior yet from Mercedes-Benz. All four seats are covered in leather; gauges are covered by a special mineral glass; fit and finish is impeccable; and burl walnut trim dominates the interior.

For 2006, the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class gains the CLS55 AMG model.
