The Toyota Highlander is a very well made crossover SUV. Its popularity is partly because of Toyota's good name, which promises top-notch quality, durability and reliability.

Four-cylinder models come with a four-speed automatic transmission; V6 models get a five-speed automatic. Seating for five comes standard, but the Highlander can carry up to seven passengers with the optional third-row seat. Safety features include front seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters, front airbags, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags for the first two rows of seats, Vehicle Stability Control and traction control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and Brake Assist.
