The Chevrolet Cobalt is available as either a two-door coupe with four trims (LS, LT, Sport and SS Turbocharged) or a four-door sedan with three trims (LS, LT and Sport).

The LS and the LT trims come standard with a 148-hp 2.2-liter engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Sport comes with a 171-hp 2.4-liter engine and a five-speed manual transmission. The SS comes with a 260-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic is optional on all trims except the SS. The LS comes with 15-inch steel wheels, front airbags with side curtain airbags, and satellite radio as standard equipment. The LT adds front and rear carpeted floor mats, premium cloth seat trim and power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry. The Sport has the same content as the LT but further adds, 17-inch aluminum wheels, anti-lock brakes, a rear spoiler, cruise control and an upgraded radio. The SS further adds 18-inch forged alloy wheels with performance tires.

For 2008 the Chevrolet Cobalt has added side curtain airbags and an XM satellite radio as standard equipment on all trims.

Intelligence on the Upcoming Chevrolet Cobalt Models For 2009 the Chevrolet Cobalt has removed the Sport trim. The 2.2-liter engine now has continuous variable valve timing and an inflator kit is standard on all trims in lieu of a spare tire.
