The Escape Hybrid has a 133-hp four-cylinder engine linked to a 70-kilowatt electric motor. The net result is 155 horsepower and acceleration similar to that of the V6, but with enhanced fuel economy and reduced emissions. As a full hybrid, the Escape Hybrid can run only on electric power in low-load conditions. The Hybrid uses a continuously variable transmission, or CVT. The compact SUV will also showcase the first U.S. automotive application of seating surfaces made entirely from 100 percent recycled materials. Standard safety features on the 2008 Escape Hybrid include front and side airbags for the front seats and side-curtain airbags that cover both rows, four-wheel disc brakes w/ABS and tire pressure monitoring. The 2008 redesign also brings a new interior, one new paint colour, unique Hybrid instrument panel and gauges and an aux-jack standard on all radios.
