The Audi S5 is a stylish, swift luxury coupe that will excite drivers looking for strong performance and buyers interested in lavish technology features and a comfortable way to travel. It's generously equipped, too, providing good value at least for the class that's full of also-talented coupes.
The S5 comes in two trim levels. Both have a new-for-2013 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with 333 horsepower and mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual. All S5s also have standard Audi Quattro all-wheel drive. The base Premium Plus comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, xenon headlamps with LED running lights, front fog lights, auto-dimming outside mirrors, 12-way power heated front sport seats, leather/Alcantara upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control and a 10-speaker audio system with Bluetooth and iPod integration along with satellite radio.
The uplevel Prestige adds keyless entry and start, Audi's blind spot warning and adaptive headlamps. The Prestige also gets a navigation package that includes Audi's MMI media interface, voice control, Audi Connect web interface, backup camera, parking sensors and HD radio, as well as a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen stero. All of those features are also optional on the Premium Plus, as is a full Nappa leather interior, 19-inch alloy wheels and a power sunshade. The optional Audi Drive Control system for the Prestige offers selectable drive modes.
The BMW 335i coupe offers effortless power and has better handling, but gets extremely expensive with options and a new model is due soon. The Mercedes-Benz C350 coupe is stylish, solidly constructed and has a lower starting price, but common options quickly elevate the price and it isn't as sporty or powerful as the Audi. Infiniti's IPL G Coupe is also stylish, with a low starting price and tenacious handling, but the interior and drivetrain feel unfinished when compared to the German coupes. By contrast, the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe has far more power than its rivals and has distinctive styling, but that styling is very impractical and it too lacks the quality interior of the Audi.
If you're in the market for a powerful coupe that's also beautifully built, you can't go wrong with the S5. All models come generously equipped and it's so stylishly designed that it exudes the timeless elegance demanded of cars in this class. Plus, it has truly effortless power and grippy handling with standard all-wheel drive.
The S5 Premium Plus comes extensively equipped, even for a performance luxury car. Besides the 3.0-liter supercharged V6, the Premium Plus includes automatic xenon headlamps with LED running lights, front fog lights, auto-dimming mirrors, tri-zone automatic climate control, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, leather/Alcantara upholstery for the 12-way power heated front sport seats, split-folding rear seats, trip computer, 10-speaker audio system with satellite radio, Bluetooth and iPod interface and rain-sensing wipers. The MMI Navigation plus package adds navigation with voice control, HD radio, backup camera with rear parking sensors, Audi Connect online services and a DVD player. Nappa leather upholstery is also available, as is a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Powerful engine with immense prestige and good handling, but gets expensive and a new model is due soon.
Stylish with a respectable base price, but common options are expensive and it is noticeably less powerful.
Less expensive and a capable handler, but less powerful, has less refined engine and interior and is generally less prestigious
Much faster with daring styling, but less refined and striking styling poses some practicality issues for driver and passengers.
