The Chevrolet Express 2500 cargo van is a rear-wheel drive, V8-powered van designed for rugged hauling and adaptability. It can transport a number of passengers, serve as a work vehicle, or haul an impressive amount of cargo.
Available with a diesel engine or several larger V8 upgrades, the Express is extremely versatile. If configured for passengers, the Express can seat up to 12 passengers in it's standard form, and up to 15with the extended wheelbase. It can also tow 10,000 pounds.
A Vortec 4.8-liter V8 flex-fuel engine with 260 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque powers the base Express 2500. A Hydra-Matic six-speed transmission with manual shifter control and rear-wheel drive is standard. This configuration earns an estimated 11 mpg city and 17 mpg highway. A diesel engine, and a several larger V8 engines are optional upgrades.
What makes the Express such a popular choice is its versatility. With a variety of trim levels, engine options, and a wide selection of optional features it's easy to customize the Express to precise needs. There's no doubt the Express is most popular as a utility and work vehicle, but when configured for passengers it's capable of hauling an impressive number of people in surprising comfort.
Safety features in the Express include antilock disc brakes on all four wheels, an electronic stability system, side-curtain airbags and optional rear parking assist.
The express handles as you would expect a large work van to handle. It's not nimble, but it is powerful -- especially with one of the larger engine upgrades. The towing capacity is impressive and the ride is surprisingly smooth for such a large and rugged vehicle.
The Chevy Express 2500 LS is only available in the standard wheelbase, and uses a 4.8 liter Vortec V8 flex fuel engine that delivers 280 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. An optional 6-liter flex fuel V8 with 324 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of torque is optional. Rear-wheel drive and a heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission are standard.
Standard features include: five-row seating for twelve passengers, an AM/FM stereo, front bucket seats, four-wheel antilock brakes, 16-inch steel wheels and daytime running lamps.
An optional Power Package adds power windows, door locks, and heated adjustable power side mirrors; a Chrome Appearance Package adds chrome accents, a chrome grille and chrome bumpers; a Cold Climate Package adds an engine blocker heater; and a Smoker's Package which adds an ashtray.
Stand alone options include: heavy-duty towing set-up, chrome accents, heated and power exterior mirrors, a sliding passenger side-door, a CD player, an MP3 player, an audio system with navigation, Bluetooth, eight-passenger seating, upgraded upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote entry and start, rear air-conditioning, a rear auxiliary heater, a rear-window defogger, a rear view camera and rear parking assistance.
The primary difference between the LT and LS is the that the LT features several of the exterior chrome accents, and comes with the option of body-colored trim.
Designed for work applications, the WT is the LS without its seating options and the addition of a three-tank fuel system and a spare tire.
Optional features include those available on the LS plus: a Hotel Shuttle Package, an Express Access Package and an Express Access Plus Package.
Standalone options include those available on the LS plus: a dedicated compressed natural gas system; a four-tank fuel system; a swing-out ladder rack; removable roof rack; tinted glass; swing-out rear cargo door windows; a swing-out rear side door and rear window; fixed doors and glass; a security screen; a swing-our driver-side door; power driver seats; a bulkhead divider, with or without door; and head and side curtain air bags.
Like the WT, the Express 2500 Diesel is available as a cargo van with a standard or extended wheelbase. It is powered by a Duramax 6.6 liter V8 turbo-diesel engine with 260 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard. Aside from the engine, the Diesel matches the WT in standard features and available options. However, with the Diesel you have access to OnStar and an Express Enhanced Lighting Package.
