The Ford E-350 Super Duty is a high-torque hauler with options for both carrying passengers and cargo. It starts with a grunty 5.4-liter Triton V8 with a four-speed automatic, while those who need to tow may opt for the 6.8-liter V10. There is no turbo diesel, but there are numerous ways to customize the interior for passengers or hauling.
Even specialty configurations can help handyman or electricians with internal bins and storage. There is also fleet-tracking telemetrics for fled usage. Fuel mileage is an important part of that, and the Ford E-350 Super Duty gets 11 MPG in the city and 13 MPG on the highway. Its industrial look belies its great pricing compared to competitors, yet it has good cargo space with 237 cubic feet standard and 275 cubic feet for extended.
Like Ford's popular trucks, the E-350 Super Duty can be optioned to fit the needs of nearly every buyer. That includes CD stereo systems and captains chairs, power windows and doors and even Ford's Sync software for hands-free access to navigation.
Base models are built to be easy to clean and easy to use. A metal floor in the E-350 base model means workers don't have to worry about cleaning out spills and dirt, but each step up the ladder provides simple features that can mean a lot to buyers who are using it for different needs such as carrying passengers, hauling rugs or overseeing construction.
There are several competitors in the full-size van market. The GMC Savana 3500 Cargo and Chevrolet Express 3500 Cargo offer more gears for fuel economy, but there are no media extras like a CD player. The Nissan NV3500 HD has a better interior appointment, but trips to the pump will be more frequent. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Cargo has a smaller engine which means low fuel bills but less towing.
The Ford E-350 Super Duty Commercial opens up a lot of cargo options for its owners. There are two seats which leaves the entire rear area open for equipment or packages. That doesn't mean that entrainment options aren't available, with an AM/FM stereo and an audio input jack for hose who want to play their own music. Coffee or other drinks can be stowed in one of the three upholders. Additional items can be stowed into two bins for smaller objects that don't need to go into the cargo area of the Ford E-350 Super Duty Commercial. There are two 12 volt power outlets for small tools, and it is easy to clean with metal flooring in the rear and vinyl up front. There is little to go wrong, with manual door locks and windows.
The configurability of the Ford E-350 Super Duty Recreational will be a plus for many owners. Seating arrangements can be optioned for 7, 8 or 11 occupants and it is easier to get out because of a stowable center seat belting system. Any music or tour information goes through six speakers, and passengers can take advantage of coat hooks and multiple dome lights. The headliner is all-cloth and there is an additional 12 volt power outlet for passengers to use. Drivers can check in the back with a rearview mirror, and the side mirrors have blind spot.
The Ford E-350 Super Duty XL adds a few more extras that can help out a number of contractors. That includes full-length vinyl carpeting that is easier to clean, as well as a valuable full-length carpeting. However, what makes the XL special is the ability to specify a number of specific options, including power windows and locks, as well as an insulation package and high-powered air conditioning. Standard features that may impress are the 5.4L Triton V8 engine with a four-speed automatic. For those who tow, the limit-slip rear axle can help provide some security. In addition, 12- and 15-passenger setups are available with the Ford E-350 Super Duty XL.
The Ford E-350 Super Duty XLT includes a number of features owners would expect on well-appointed cars. That includes power windows and locks, as well as sun-visors and door trim panels. On the inside, there is full-length carpeting and floor mats, as well as cloth-trim for the seats. For longer hauls, the AM/FM/CD player is helpful, as it can also play MP3s and six speakers. Cruise control can help in the same way, as do power mirrors. Options include a more powerful alternator and heavy-duty batteries for more extreme conditions like towing.
