The 2013 Kia Cadenza is a cleanly styled and technology-laden new large premium front-wheel drive sedan that shares some components with the new Hyundai Azera. Set to go on sale early next year as a 2013 model, the Cadenza will do battle with cars like the Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus and Chrysler 300.
The attractive vehicle will soon slot into the Kia lineup between the midsize Optima at one end and the new full-size luxury RWD Quoris at the other.
Kia is placing a heavy emphasis on offering a boatload of high-tech features as standard equipment, starting with the great direct-injection Lambda II 3.5-liter V6, now making 290 horsepower. Paired with the standard 6-speed automatic transmission, this engine should be good for around 20 city/29 highway mpg plus effortless lane changes and passing maneuvers. A 12-speaker premium Infinity sound system will come standard, along with interior mood lighting, leather seating and a massive panoramic glass sunroof.
Safety is a big priority at Kia these days. The Cadenza features eight airbags, front and rear parking assist, an auto-dimming electro-chromic rearview mirror with an integrated rearview camera system, active head restraints, and a pre-crash safety system that detects an imminent collision and preps the brakes for maximum stopping power.
Overall the Cadenza, already on sale in South Korea as the Kia K7, is shaping up to be a very nice vehicle as Kia continues to push the limits of what was once thought of as little more than a barebones value brand.
Pricing should be right around $32,000 as is the case with Hyundai Azera, with the Cadenza expected to hit the streets at the beginning of 2013.
