There are two trims, the ES and the SE, with optional Four-Wheel-Drive and Automatic transmission available for both. A 2.0L V4 engine sits in both models, putting out a solid 148hp. Standard features for the ES include color LCD multi-information display, iPod connectivity and Bluetooth technology, 4-speaker sound system with CD player cruise control, keyless entry, heated mirrors, auxiliary audio jack, and 60/40 split-folding rear seats. Jumping up to the SE adds fabric seats, heated front seats, auto xenon headlights and fog lights, keyless entry and ignition, and a 6-speaker audio system with satellite radio.
A la carte options include a hard-drive based navigation system, keyless entry/ignition, a 6-CD changer, and 16-inch alloy wheels for the ES. Most other features are collected into optional upgrade packages. The Navigation Package adds a high-tech navigation system, audio and video connectivity, and a rearview camera. The Exterior Sport Package offers an even sleeker exterior, extra design flourishes, and improved overall aerodynamics. The Interior Package, only available in auto transmissions, includes a piano-black interior trim and shiny aluminum shifter knob. Available just for the SE AWD is the Premium Package, which bumps the driving experience up a notch with a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, rearview camera, 6-CD changer, and premium Rockford Fosgate speaker system.
Safety features are well covered with Mitsubishi's 7-airbag system, which includes side and front airbags, side curtain airbags, and driver-side knee airbags. Also added are traction and stability control and antilock brakes.
It goes without saying that a number of other Crossovers are also a great choice for shoppers today. The Honda CR-V gets excellent fuel economy and has top safety ratings; the Kia Sportage is more sport-like with firmer handling; and both the Nissan Juke and Chevy Equinox house more powerful engines with plenty of exterior pizzazz.
The Outlander Sport's best selling point is its affordable price tag, followed closely by its competitive fuel economy rating and comfortable design. The driver who chooses this model will be concerned with safety and affordability rather than powerful drivetrains and primo features, and will most likely be satisfied with their purchase.
