With its refined interior and sporty nature, the Audi Q5 has earned its way into the top tier of compact crossovers. While all versions are efficient for their class, the Hybrid delivers extra mileage without any reduction in performance.
What's New for 2014
Following a significant refresh last year, the Q5 line continues into 2014 with minor trim revisions.
Choosing Your Audi Q5 Hybrid
The hybrid powerplant utilizes a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder and electric motor for a total output of 245 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard.
Although mileage ratings of 24/30/26 might not seem too impressive for a hybrid, keep in mind that the Q5 Hybrid goes from zero to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. It’s the blend of performance and efficiency, not the mileage alone, that makes this model a standout.
The Hybrid comes only in top-of-the-line Prestige trim, which means you get every bit of convenience and safety technology Audi can muster. Among the more exclusive features are a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a heated and cooled cupholder, and adaptive xenon headlamps. The only thing missing is a rear-seat entertainment system, which is available as a standalone option.
Even with such a high level of standard equipment, there is room for further customization:
Comfort Interior Package: You get extra leather interior trim and premium-grain Milano leather on the seats. The ones in front are ventilated and come with four-way lumbar power.
Sport Interior Package: Adds a three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters and front sport seats with lumbar power—or just the steering wheel when combined with the package above.
Don't let the higher sticker price of the Hybrid scare you off. It’s incredibly well equipped—even by luxury-class standards. By the time you add options to one of the lesser models, the Hybrid may be a better deal, especially in light of its higher mileage.
