The BMW 640 offers a full complement of features in a sleek two-door package. Whether you choose the sporty coupe or the freedom of the convertible, you’ll be sitting in the lap of luxury.
What's New for 2014
Beginning with the 2014 model year, all-wheel-drive versions of the 640 coupe and convertible are available along with an M Sport Edition with a collection of appearance and convenience upgrades. In addition, an upgraded Driver Assistance Plus package adds automatic braking functions to the lane-departure warning and the adaptive cruise control systems.
Choosing Your BMW 640
The only component of your 2014 640 that doesn’t allow you to make a choice is the power source. This turbocharged 3-liter inline six-cylinder engine produces up to 315 horsepower and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with sport and manual modes plus steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. An automatic start-stop function and a regenerative braking system help improve fuel economy.
Two key decisions are body style—coupe or convertible—and drivetrain—rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive:
Deciding what you want in your new 640’s appearance gets more complicated:
- Exterior: There are 10 standard color choices in metallic and non-metallic finishes and five additional choices through the BMW Individual packages. Two more colors are available only if you also order the M Sport Package.
- Upholstery: The 640’s standard upholstery is Dakota leather in a range of three color choices. An upgrade to Nappa leather requires the additional purchase of multicontour seats and the extension of the leather to the instrument-panel finish. In the BMW Individual group of choices, you can select from five color choices in Merino leather.
- Interior trims: Three standard trim choices are supplemented by three more in the BMW Individual packages.
You can further individualize your 640 with several packaged and individual options:
- The Executive package adds concierge services, a head-up display, and multicontour ventilated seats. There is also a choice of BMW’s premium sound system or a Bang & Olufsen system for an additional cost, both with 16 speakers.
- With the M Sport package you can add an aerodynamic kit, an Alcantara headliner in a choice of colors and a performance M steering wheel. Three wheel choices and the two additional exterior color options round out this package.
- The Individual Composition package includes the Individual exterior, upholstery and trim choices, plus shadowline exterior trim and three wheel selections.
- Additional packages offer such items as a heated steering wheel, adaptive headlights and electronic driver-assistance and safety systems.
Options available outside of the packages include:
- The Bang & Olufsen sound system
- Parking assist
- Power rear sunshade (offered for the coupe only)
- Active front seats
- Adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning systems
- Night vision with pedestrian detection
It's easy to add thousands of dollars to the base price of any BMW. Choose your individual and packaged options carefully since some items in the packages are also available individually. You may be able to get certain options without buying a package that contains items you don’t want.
