When BMW teams up with ALPINA Automobiles the results feature engines tweaked for maximum performance and interiors full of well-appointed luxury. The limited-edition ALPINA B7, the fastest of BMW’s 7 Series with a top speed of 194 mph, is the only ALPINA model available in the U.S. for 2014.
What's New for 2014
The 2014 version of the ALPINA B7 is largely unchanged from the 2013 model year when several changes and updates occurred.
Choosing Your BMW ALPINA B7
As a limited-edition collaboration between BMW and ALPINA, the ALPINA B7 is pretty close to perfection. However, buyers will need to make a choice between the long or short wheelbase—a difference of 5.5 inches. Additionally, the ALPINA B7 is available with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive in both wheelbases.
- Short wheelbase, rear-wheel drive
- Short wheelbase, all-wheel drive
- Long wheelbase, rear-wheel drive
- Short wheelbase, all-wheel drive
Under the hood a specially tweaked 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces 520 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Not surprisingly, the B7’s zero-to-60 time is only 4.3 seconds. The eight-speed Switch-tronic automatic transmission from ALPINA lets the driver choose between sport and manual modes and shift using steering-wheel-mounted buttons.
The B7’s exterior features an ALPINA aerodynamic kit with front and rear spoilers along with ALPINA Classic 21-inch 20-spoke wheels.
Among the few optional features and conveniences offered to buyers are:
- Several exterior colors in addition to the ALPINA B7’s exclusive blue metallic paint
- Exclusive interior trim details including a steering wheel covered in hand-stitched Lavalina leather
- Rear-seat entertainment system
- A night-vision system that warns of pedestrians or animals ahead
The ALPINA B7 is a limited-edition version of the BMW 7 Series sedan lineup, and comes with a breathtaking price tag. But remember—it comes with a host of standard equipment that's optional on ordinary 7 Series cars.
