What you must know before buying the BMW X6
, Automotive Editor -
  • Niche offering
  • Low demand
  • Lease rates have held steady
  • APR has decreased

Not for everyone:

Even though the X6 has an elevated ride height and four side doors, BMW calls it a coupe. It's a niche model in the eyes of many others. Given its low demand, this unusual vehicle is typically factory-ordered. However, we've seen the xDrive35i (in ready-made form) marked down by more than $7,000 online.

Lease costs are on an even keel:

The monthly lease payments for the 2014 xDrive35i and xDrive50i models remain at $729 and $859, respectively. BMW is still offering terms of 36 months for both non-M types of the X6. Down payments are holding steady at $3,500.

Financing is now more affordable:

You can finance an X6 for up to 72 months at an APR rate of 3.13 percent. It was 3.20 percent last month.

More Xs on the way:

BMW's portfolio of X vehicles, such as the X6 and the X5, has proven so popular that the German automaker is investing $1 billion through 2016 in its Spartanburg, SC plant to boost annual output of X-badged rigs from 300,000 to 450,000. The factory will also produce the upcoming X7 flagship crossover.

Look for the 2015 X6 at your local BMW dealership late this year. Pricing will be revealed closer to that time.
