Choosing Your Honda CR-Z
The CR-Z carries a 1.5-liter four-cylinder and electric motor that together produce 130 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission with hill-start assist is standard, making the CR-Z the only hybrid on the market that you can shift yourself. The optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) comes with paddle shifters and boosts gas mileage to 37 mpg combined (versus 34 with the manual).
All models offer you three driving modes: Normal, Econ or Sport. There’s also a Sport Plus button that gives you a 5-second burst of power in any mode.
You won’t find a backseat in the CR-Z, but you do get a handy parcel shelf with individual bins. With the various dividers folded down, you get 25 cubic feet of flat load space.
You can have your CR-Z in two trim levels: Base and EX.
If you must have a manual transmission and hybrid power, the CR-Z is indeed the only car for you. For the rest of us, the more efficient CVT is the logical choice. With its enhanced interior trim, the EX model makes the most of the CR-Z’s sporty character without spoiling its friendly price.
