Most compact vans are built for hauling people, but a few are strictly business. The Nissan NV200 is one of those light-duty cargo carriers, designed for urban maneuverability and efficiency, but still able to get the job done.
What's New for 2014
The NV200 is a brand new model for 2014.
Choosing Your Nissan NV200
Unlike the full-size Nissan NV, the NV200 is built on a front-drive passenger car platform. In terms of size, it matches up with your typical family minivan, although every bit of available interior space is dedicated to cargo capacity. The NV200 seats two in front and can handle up to 1,500 pounds of cargo spread across 123 cubic feet. You also get a large storage compartment in the front console. The passenger seatback folds forward to create a workstation or lunch table.
Just so there’s no doubt about its mission, the NV200 comes standard with integrated mounting points for interior shelving. Like most cargo vans, the NV200 is outfitted with swing-out rear doors and a sliding side door.
Since economical operation is a high priority for businesses, the sole engine is a 2-liter four-cylinder with 131 horsepower, matched to continuously variable transmission (CVT). The NV200 achieves 24 mpg in combined city and highway driving.
Nissan offers the NV200 in two trim levels:
As expected, the NV200 is far more efficient than any full-size van. What’s more significant is that it gets better mileage than any other gasoline-powered compact van on the market.
Which NV200 you choose depends on your needs. For local deliveries, an S should do the trick. For longer-range journeys, an SV with the Technology Package might be a welcome upgrade.
