What's New
With all except one of its trim levels discontinued for the 2022 model year, the Hyundai Veloster range now contains a single model. The brand says this is to make room for extra SUVs, though the high-performance N was always the sweet spot of the Veloster range. There are no mechanical or specification changes this year, and no available options, either.
Choosing Your Hyundai Veloster
The single-model 2022 Veloster range now starts at $33,525 including destination for the N, with automatic transmission adding $1,500 to the price.
Engine Choices
The Veloster is powered by a two-liter turbocharged gas engine, generating 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. This is supplied to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, returning an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 combined.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (City/Highway/Combined) |
2.0 turbo | 275 hp | 260 lb-ft | 22/28/25 MPG |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Cargo capacity for the four-seater Veloster stands at 19.9 cu ft with the rear seats in place, and 44.5 cu ft once they’re dropped.
Safety Features
An impressive array of safety features come as standard on the Veloster, starting with six airbags and automatic lights. Traction control and a vehicle stability management system helps to keep the show on the road, alongside braking assist.
Driver aids include lane-keeping and following assistance, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic collision warnings, plus forward collision-avoidance assist and a driver attention warning system. This is also the only production car on the market with one door on the driver’s side and two on the other side, improving passenger safety during entry and exit.
Connectivity
An eight-inch touchscreen is fitted with navigation and smartphone mirroring as standard, with AM/FM and satellite radio outputting through an eight-speaker Infinity audio system with subwoofer and amplifier.
Hyundai’s Blue Link connected services are available as standard, and there are data/power USB ports in the cabin. However, the lack of options means you can’t upgrade to features like wireless charging or a head-up display.
Veloster N – MSRP From $33,525
Riding on 19-inch alloy wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero tires, the N comes with ventilated brake rotors, sport-tuned steering, a limited-slip diff, and electronically controlled suspension. LED daytime running lights and matching projector lights complement a two-stage rear spoiler outside, while the cabin receives a sports perforated leather steering wheel and leather shift knob.
Sports bucket seats hold front occupants in place (with six-way adjustment for the driver), climate keeps everyone cool, alloy pedals provide some style, and a navigation-equipped eight-inch touchscreen offers plenty of substance.
There are no options available to customize your Veloster with.
With only one model to choose from, and no packages available, the Veloster range is simple itself to navigate. We’d favor the wet dual-clutch automatic transmission for its extra two gears.
