Hot on the heels of Jaguar’s new F-Type Roadster that appeared at dealerships last year, British motoring fans and passionate drivers everywhere will soon have the option of picking up Jaguar’s scintillatingly-styled two-seater in hardtop coupe form. The new all-aluminum Jag features smart styling echoing back to the company’s C-X16 Concept car, with touches of the classic E-Type Coupe thrown in for good measure.
The F-Type Coupe replaces the convertible’s notchback design with a solid roof decked out in either aluminum or panoramic glass, and features increased structural rigidity over the convertible. It will once again come in three grades: the base F-Type Coupe, the F-Type S Coupe and the top-of-the-line F-Type R. The first two will come packing supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engines making 340 horsepower and 380 horsepower, respectively.
Sitting alone atop the range, the new R Coupe features more stirring performance than anything from Jaguar in recent memory, with a mammoth 5.0-liter supercharged V8 making 550 horsepower, a 4.0-second 0-60-mph dash, and a 186-mph top speed. All forms will come with a paddle-shifted 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Standout features on the base model include leather power-adjustable seating for two, an 8-inch touchscreen for navigation and iPod integration, and a 10-speaker audio system. The S Coupe adds Jaguar’s adaptive suspension, active exhaust and performance brakes, among other niceties. Stepping up to the “R”, other than the huge power bump that goes above and beyond the sportiest convertible model, will bring sportier seats with body-hugging bolstering, 20-inch wheels, and a revised RWD system that can apply torque to each wheel individually to aid in cornering.
Pricing will start at $65,895 for the base model and $77,895 for the S Coupe, while the R Coupe will start just shy of the $100k mark at $99,895. Deliveries will begin in Spring 2014.
