Volvo’s largest sedan continues to offer a pleasant motoring experience for buyers who might be turned off by flashier competitors. With a plush ride and conservative styling, it’s aimed squarely at the middle of the luxury market.
What's New for 2015
The front-drive S80 gets Volvo’s new Drive-E engine for increased efficiency and lower emissions.
Choosing Your Volvo S80
If you go with front-drive model, the 2-liter Drive-E comes standard along with a new eight-speed automatic with Eco and Sport modes. The turbocharged four-cylinder generates 240 horsepower and delivers 25 mpg around town and 37 mpg on the highway.
All-wheel drive versions of the S80 continue with a turbocharged 3-liter V6 good for 300-horsepower and a six-speed automatic with manual shift mode.
Trim levels are broken out by drivetrain:
- W/ Premier Plus Package: Adds front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a quick-fold passenger seat and a grocery bag holder.
- W/ Platinum Package: Includes the Premiere Plus equipment, plus navigation, ambient interior lighting, voice controls and 12-speaker surround sound.
- W/ Climate Package: Equips the S80 with a cabin air filtration system and heated front and rear seats, steering wheel, windshield and washer nozzles.
- W/ Technology Package: Comes with automatic high-beam control, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, speed limit information, and pedestrian and cyclist detection.
You can equip any S80 with an upgraded leather interior, bi-xenon headlamps and a lane-departure warning system.
If efficiency ranks high on your list of must-haves, the T5 is the only way to go. If you're looking for performance, the T6 is your equally obvious choice.
