A long-running staple of the Audi lineup, the midsize A6 continues to impress buyers with its blend of technology, road manners and sober good looks. You also get faultless interior construction and ample opportunity to tailor the A6 to your expectations.
What's New for 2016
The A6 wears restyled front and rear fascias, and the available V6 engine gains fuel-saving technology and additional horsepower. A new automated manual transmission is used with all gasoline engines.
Choosing Your Audi A6
The A6 starts out as a front-driver powered by a 220-horsepower turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder, matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.
- The available supercharged 3-liter V6 now makes 333 horsepower and features an automatic stop-start function for enhanced efficiency.
- At the top of the engine roster is a 3-liter turbodiesel V6 (TDI) that delivers 240 horsepower and 29 mpg in combined driving. The TDI gets a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission.
All-wheel drive is optional with the 2-liter engine and standard with the V6 and TDI. Every A6 is equipped with Audi's Select Drive system with adjustable driving modes.
The A6's trim levels break out according to engine:
The Driver Assistance package equips the A6 with advanced safety technology like a surround-view camera system, active collision mitigation and adaptive cruise control. The Innovation package adds a head-up display and night vision. There's also a Sport package with an upgraded suspension and larger wheels, and a Cold Weather Package featuring heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. A 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system is available as a standalone option.
The A6 is very competitively priced until you get to the Prestige model, where you really need to think about whether the extras you're getting are worth the price.
