When it comes to hard-working cargo vans, the name Ford springs to mind for a reason. For decades, they have dominated the commercial working vehicle category within the U.S., and with offerings like the Transit 150 it is easy to see why. The Transit is a hardworking, versatile cargo van that is offered in a variety of heights, lengths, engines and trims. If you’re looking for a commercial vehicle to haul people or to work out of, chances are there is a Transit that will meet your needs.

What's New for 2016

Updates to the 2016 Transit 150 are minor but include some new standard equipment and options. A rearview camera with tow-hitch assist is now standard. The Sync 3 infotainment system replaces the MyFord Touch system as optional equipment. Dual sliding doors are now available, as are auxiliary fuse panels and a single absorbed glass mat battery for additional power requirements.

Choosing Your Ford Transit 150

The number of choices to be made when selecting a new Transit 150 can be a bit daunting for those looking for a simple turnkey solution. Not only can you choose between the commercial van and passenger wagon styles, from there you choose from three engines, three roof heights, three body lengths, and two different rear door and side door setups. The sheer number of possible configurations is impressive, in and of itself, and speaks to the Transit 150’s ability to be customized.

Fortunately, your first choice between commercial van or passenger wagon should be the easiest. The van only comes in a single trim level, while the wagon is offered as a base model or a feature-focused XLT trim.

Then there are three engines to choose from starting with a 3.7-liter V6. It delivers 275 horsepower, 260 pound-feet of torque, and an estimated 14 mpg city/19 mpg highway. Also available are a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 rated at 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, and a turbocharged 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel capable of 185 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque.

All Transit engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift and a tow/haul mode.

Van XL

Standard equipment for the Van XL includes a 2-speaker AM/FM stereo, power door locks, power windows, and air conditioning. A variety of options are available to build out your Van XL including the Interior Upgrade Package which adds a 4-inch multi-function display, leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls, and cruise control.

Wagon XL

The Wagon XL gets you most of the features included in the Van XL, but adds seating for eight (up to fifteen with the extended-length body), a 6-speaker AM/FM stereo system, all-around tinted windows, and an overhead console (on medium and high roof models). A similarly expansive option list offers add-ons like air conditioning with rear controls, CD player, 4-inch multi-function display, rain-sensing wipers, and keyless entry keypad.

Wagon XLT

Moving up to the Wagon XLT adds several passenger-focused amenities including reclining rear seats, an 8-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo with 4-inch multi-function display, cruise control with message center, front dome lamp with maps and theater dimming, and rain-sensing wipers. Options largely mimic those of the Wagon XL.

CarsDirect Tip

If you’re planning on putting of heavy wear and miles on your Transit 150, we recommend stepping up from the 3.7-liter V6 to either the diesel or Ecoboost engine. Both of these powerplants offer better hauling performance and will stand up to harder use, making them well worth the investment.
