2018 Lexus RX 450h: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

, Automotive Editor - August 31, 2017

Model Preview

In 2016, the Lexus RX 450h received a sharp redesign that gave it an angular look to match its non-hybrid sibling. With this updated model still fresh, we expect no changes for the 2018 RX 450h.

As a carryover model, we expect this hybrid crossover’s appearance to be virtually identical to the current model. It’ll continue with its sharp lines and creases, swooping roofline, and floating-roof design. We also expect the cabin to remain the same, as it’ll continue to envelop the occupants in a sea of luxurious features and surprising peacefulness.

Because it’ll be a carryover, we also expect no changes to its standard features. Like all other Lexus models, the RX 450h has no trim levels, just a base trim and option packages. In 2017, this base model comes standard with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, fog lights and taillights, automatic high beams and wipers, a power liftgate, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch color display, and a 12-speaker audio system. We expect these features to remain the same in 2018.

Under its hood, we expect the 2018 RX 450h to remain the same. If this proves true, look for it to arrive with a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with an electric drive unit that team up to create 308 horsepower. This power travels through a continuously variable transmission on its way to all four wheels. Fuel economy should also remain the same at 31 miles per gallon city, 28 highway, and 30 combined.

The entire RX lineup, including the RX 450h, is a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus winner, thanks to its “Good” ratings in all five crash tests and its “Superior” rating in the front-crash prevention test. What’s great, is that the latter test is valid in the base model too, as it comes standard with automatic emergency braking. This should all remain the same in 2018.

Pricing & Release Date

There is no official release date set for the 2018 RX 450h, but we expect to see it in the fall of 2017.

Pricing is also not available yet, but as a carryover, it shouldn’t stray too far from the 2017 model, which ranges from $54,030 to $57,490.

The 2018 RX 450h’s key competition will include the BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance and the Volvo XC90 T8.
