2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Limited: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

Model Preview

The Volkswagen Tiguan will receive a complete makeover for 2018, as it will get a completely new look and grow by 10 inches. New reports quoting Volkswagen product manager Jeff Ng (pronounced “Ing”) claim the old-generation model will continue alongside the new one as the 2018 Tiguan Limited.

The 2018 Tiguan Limited will essentially be a carryover of the outgoing generation Tiguan. We anticipate the same rounded look, giving buyers a nice contrast to the blockier appearance of the new-generation crossover. It will also continue with its 10-inch-shorter length, giving buyers who prefer a smaller footprint an option.

Inside, we expect the Tiguan Limited to continue with its two-row seating and tighter cargo room than the new model. We also expect its interior design to remain completely unchanged. An optional Composition Media system with the Premium Package adds a 6.33-inch screen and connected car capabilities with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

With all else carrying over, we expect the standard features to remain the same too, especially since this will be a value offering relative to the new Tiguan. Look for it to come standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, heated mirrors, automatic headlights, keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, a 6.3-inch touchscreen, an eight-speaker audio system, and more.

Under its hood, we expect the Tiguan Limited to continue with the current generation’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque.A six-speed automatic transmission will remain the connection between the engine and the front wheels or the optional all-wheel-drive system.

Like many small crossovers, the Tiguan had issues in the IIHS’ small-overlap test, earning just a marginal rating. It also lacks an automatic emergency braking system, which puts it out of contention for a Top Safety Pick rating. Since we expect no changes in this department, look for these ratings to continue into the Tiguan Limited.
