2019 Cadillac CTS: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

Model Preview

Since its full redesign in 2014, the CTS has received a few visual tweaks and powertrain updates. For 2019, though, we expect it to be a carryover model. Fortunately, buyers won’t have to wait long for a redesign, as reports indicate a complete re-do and a name change to the CT5 will come by 2020.

Visually, we expect the CTS to carry on unchanged. We expect it to feature the same stylish looks it’s had since its 2017 restyling. This should include the soon-to-depart signature grille with floating, wreath-less badge and its swept-back headlights. We also expect the CTS’ upscale interior to remain unchanged as well with its dramatic shapes and soft-touch points everywhere.

Standard features will likely remain unchanged for the most part. The current car comes equipped with cruise control, an 11-speaker audio system, three USB ports, Bluetooth audio streaming, rear parking sensors, an 8-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, leatherette upholstery, and more.

We expect the CTS to continue with the same trio of engines. The base unit is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Optionally, buyers are able to swap in a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque. For those who want true exhilaration, the V-Sport model and its twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 cranks out 420 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. All three engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The current Cadillac CTS struggles a bit with the IIHS’ small-overlap and headlight tests, as it received “Marginal” and “Poor” ratings in them, respectively. In the other crash tests, it received “Good” ratings, while its optional automatic emergency braking system earned it a “Superior” rating in the front crash prevention test. We expect this to all remain the same in 2019.

Pricing & Release Date

Cadillac hasn’t announced an official on-sale date for the 2019 CTS, but we expect production to start in July.

Since there are no notable changes, we expect pricing to remain close to the current CTS, which ranges from $47,490 to $72,290 (destination fees included).

The 2019 CTS will battle the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and the Audi A6.
