Major changes included: Constructed mainly of lightweight aluminum, the R8 is a sports car with a longitudinally mounted mid-engine, and uses Audi's 'trademark' quattro permanent four-wheel drive system to distribute power and torque to all four wheels. The R8 is exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by Audi high performance private subsidiary company and is based heavily on the Lamborghini Gallardo.
