Based on the stylish A5, the RS 5 ups performance levels with a high-revving 4.2-liter V8 making 450-horsepower and 317 pound feet of torque. With this engine, the RS 5 propels itself from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and can achieve a top speed of 174 mph. A rear wing deploys at 70 mph to increase downforce.

A few special styling touches and badges set the RS 5 apart, but in an understated way. Unless you know what to look for—or hear its throaty exhaust note—you might not realize you're in the presence of such a special car.

Major changes included:

New to the U.S. market for 2013 was the Audi RS 5 coupe and convertible, which was the high-performance variant of the A5 and S5. On the outside, the first-generation RS 5 carried the same core design as the A5, but Audi pushed it to extremes with a sporty body kit and aggressive wheels. Under its hood, the RS 5 received a 4.2-liter V8 with 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque on tap. The RS 5 came standard with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive.
