Filling Out Car Loan Applications Online

Bookmark and Share

Online car loan applications are generally short, simple and easy to fill out. They normally don’t require a whole lot of information. If you want to improve your chances at getting approved for an online car loan, however, it is important to fill them out carefully. Entering accurate, correctly spelled and honest information is essential to your online auto loan application being approved.

Step One – Check Site Security
Before you enter any information into the online form, make sure that their website is using a secure Internet protocol. One way to check is: look at your web browser address field. If the website address starts with the letters ‘https’, then the website is probably secure. In addition, look for a small padlock in the lower right-hand corner of your web browser screen. If a padlock is present, then the website is secure. If there is no padlock present, or if the picture depicts an open padlock, then the website is not secure.

Step Two - Entering the Basics
All online car applications will require you to enter basic information. You will be required to enter your full name, address and other pertinent contact information, such as your telephone number and your e-mail address. In addition, many online car loan applications ask you to enter your monthly income and/or the name of the company or organization where you are employed.

Step Three – Entering Very Private Information
You should always be cautious about personal information entered into any online form. However, the nature of applying for a car loan does require you to enter some private information - there is no way around it. Nevertheless, you should always be aware of the dangers of transmitting your personal data over the Internet.

Some online car lenders ask you to enter your Social Security Number - don't do it. If you are applying for an online auto loan, and the application requires you to enter your Social Security number, simply enter 123-456-7891. If they have a remarks or comment section, leave a quick note for them to call you for your Social Security Number.

Online car loan applications are a quick and convenient way to apply for your next new or used car loan, and can offer a lot of advantages versus traditional application methods. However, a measure of caution and common sense needs to be applied when deciding which sites to submit private information.

If you ever feel uncomfortable about a site or feel something is amiss, don’t take a chance and submit your information anyway. Rather, look for a telephone number on the site, and give them a call. If you are not able to find a telephone number, then something is probably wrong. Look for another site to submit your online car loan application.
