GMAC loans are loans that borrowers gets from GMAC Financial Services. Until 2006, GMAC was a "captive finance company", owned by large auto maker General Motors. GMAC was created especially to help customers make deals that they could afford on General Motors vehicles. GMAC also provides a range of community services related to GM products, such as info on insurance and other aspects of a diver's financial life.
GMAC continues to set up a variety of loan options for a range of GM cars and trucks. Customers taking out GMAC loans can enjoy the benefit of having a lender that is connected to the auto maker. However, conditions surrounding General Motors restructuring cause some to question the solvency of GMAC as a lender.
The fact is, though, the GMAC is not currently owned by General Motors. Internal data from the GMAC web page shows that controlling interest was sold to a variety of partners in 2006 and GM no longer officially controls the company.
