It's a definite curiosity what we will see in cars of the future. Whether it might be the flying cars of science fiction remains to be seen. The fact that there will be changes is obvious. The fun is in imagining what that change might be. The technology is already in place for several things that will probably be in the cars of the future.
Energy
Cars are already beginning to move away from fossil fuels. We have hybrid fuel vehicles and electric cars are improving all the time. Work continues on hydrogen fuel cells. What’s certain is that cars of the future won’t be powered by gasoline. That will mean a great deal less pollution, vital both to combat climate change and stop us grinding to a halt as petroleum supplies run out. There will be a big move toward renewable fuels that don’t pollute and which cost less than we currently pay.
Navigation
People have rapidly become more and more reliant on satellite navigation devices to drive from place to place. Most new cars come with Sat Nav built in now, and this will likely just be the start. Between that and cruise control, the drivers have less involvement in the actual act of driving. We could see a time when the car and different systems internally do all the work. The driver just has to sit back and enjoy the ride.
There will still be the option to drive yourself, for those who really want it. Most will prefer to let the vehicle do the work, with built-in sensors and radar to ensure no collisions. That technology is still some way ahead, but the cars of the future might be a little more like automatic taxis or buses.
Roads
The roads are becoming more crowded each year, with more vehicles taxing the highway infrastructure. Will the cars of the future even use roads or will we really see those flying cars? Realistically, we’ll still be using the roads. Working out how to have thousands of vehicles in the sky without plenty of crashes would be a logistical nightmare. Flying cars remain a dream and in the near future at least, they are unlikely to become more than that.
Shape
Look at the way that car shapes have changed over the years. They’ve slowly become more aerodynamic and fuel efficient. That will continue. There will still be several types of vehicle, ranging from the sporty to the larger family car, but expect them to have developed so there’s less drag and the mileage (regardless of the type of fuel) is vastly improved.
Types Of Car
There will be different types of cars of the future. Some will be very small runabouts, just to be driven in the city and able to park in tiny spaces. Others will be intended for longer journeys, with ergonomic seats. You’ll buy the type of car you use most, and probably rent others as you need them. Ultimately, no one really knows what the cars of the future will be like. One thing is certain, however, and that’s the fact we’ll be driving.
