It may not give you a license to kill and you may not be invited by the British Secret Service to become one of its double agents, but you can now buy the James Bond Aston Martin that appeared in a number of James Bond flicks, including Goldfinger and Thunderball.
If you are familiar with the James Bond series of movies then you know that the Aston Martin DB5 is laden with all sorts of gadgets controlled by toggles and switches in the center armrest. Imagine being able to eject the person sitting in the passenger seat out of the car, shoot machine guns or operate an oil slick sprayer and smoke screen. It's no doubt a real kick to drive.
Jerry Lee, a Philadelphia-based radio broadcaster, is selling the car. He has owned it since 1969 when he bought it for $12,000. You would think that the car was always in good condition, but Lee pointed out that when he purchased it from Aston Martin it "looked like a piece of junk," he said. The car has been restored. The engine runs well and most of the gadgets work or can be made to work. And the odometer reads less than 31,000 miles. The car also features silver birch exterior paint and dark gray leather interior. The 3,995 cc engine generates 282 horsepower at 5500 RPM. Top speed is said to be 145 miles per hour.
RM Auctions, an auction house in South London, will be selling the vehicle on October 27. They expect to fetch more than $5 million. The sum will make the car the most ever paid for vehicle from a film.
Lee said that the proceeds will go to the Jerry Lee Foundation, an organization devoted to solving social problems.
