All the major auto companies will debut a new concept car each year. These concept cars are prototypes that will incorporate new technology, a new style, or new concept. They are normally shown to the public at auto shows. These cars rarely go into production as is, but are considered a production intent vehicle. Most cars will have significant changes between the concept and manufactured model.
- Audi e-Tron: This is the second e-Tron concept car and it is an electric car. This concept car is scheduled to go into production in 2012. Audi only plans on producing 1,000 and if these do not sell then they will halt production. This car has 2 motors and uses lithium ion batteries. It takes 11 hours to fully charge, though the charge is good for 150 miles.
- BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept: This concept car from 2010, uses BMW Active Hybrid technology to provide the best blend between efficiency and performance. The car manages to meet the low emission requirements of new cars without sacrificing the performance that drivers have come to love and expect from BMW. This car is a complete hybrid with a turbo diesel engine and 2 electric motors.
- BMW Concept Grand Coupe: This car combines performance and elegance all in one package. The proportions on this car are quite unique within a 4 door model and this is part of the Design Night from BMW. This concept vehicle uses the design that is known with BMW but also captures high quality elegance and dynamic performance. The entire shaping style is one pattern.
- Jaguar XJ: The XJ from Jaguar is a classic but sales have decreased, so Jaguar has come out with a new shape for the XJ. This is a very elegant and refined car. The windows have all been elongated and the glass is all dark. The body is quite simple, but this only enhances the sleekness and elegance of the model.
- Lexus LF-CH Hybrid Concept: The Lf-CH from Lexus was created to attempt to compete with BMW. This car uses the latest hybrid technology and offers 4 different driving modes. You can use the full EV mode or go to the complete sport mode. For those spirited drivers there is even integrated paddler shifters on the steering wheel. The lights are all LED and there is a 2 door concept as well as a 4 door hatchback. There are even iPod docking stations.
- Plymouth Road Runner Concept: The latest 2011 Road Runner concept from Plymouth was designed by a famous artist, Michael Leonhard from Austria. This concept car takes you back to the old muscle car days. The front of the Road Runner features halogen head lights that glow and make the otherwise bulky front end look very unique. The side view is the best and really shows all the power that is waiting when you drive.
- Bertone Pandion Concept: The 2001 concept car is based off of the Alfa Romeo 8C and the spider concept form Pininfarina. The hood is along and curvaceous and the grill uses thousands of intermingled blades which is called an Algorithmic design. The doors are quite large and swing upward, and the floor is actually a bunch of carbon fibers that form a net. The design is supposed to bring together organic forms and mathematical principles.
