For anyone who believes that you should be permitted to drive any type of vehicle you want, you may be dismayed to hear about the Paris SUV ban.  That’s right, the City of Lights, Paris, France, is considering banning SUVs. For now the proponents of the idea are after the SUV because they are trying to reduce the amount of pollution. However, it is apparent that many are also against the size of the vehicle. They want to limit the number of large vehicles within the city. Moreover, these anti-SUV proponents are said to be after the older diesel powered vehicles too.

The anti-SUV crowd has not been silent about their intentions. For example, the deputy mayor of Paris, a gentleman by the name of Denis Baupin, has said openly during a radio interview, “Sell it (SUV) and buy a vehicle that’s compatible with city life.”

In addition, as far as France is concerned, it may not stop with Paris. There is action to ban SUVs in other French cities including Lyon, Grenoble and Aix-en-Provence. Although the rules have not yet been drawn up, it is expected that the ban could be implemented as early as late 2011 or early 2012.
