Major changes included: The 3 Series gets larger, and includes more rear-seat space and increased trunk capacity. A new inline-six-cylinder engine is introduced that produces greater horsepower and torque; a six-speed manual transmission now comes standard. The suspension is now stiffer, offering up a firmer ride.

Major changes included: Sedans are completely redesigned for 1999, boasting a new look that resembles the larger 5 Series. The coupe and convertible follow suit in 2000, at which time a wagon debuts and the hatchback is dropped. All 3 Series are larger and more luxurious than the previous generation. Power is boosted in both engines and all-wheel drive becomes available on the sedan and wagon in 2001.
Major changes included: BMW's revered sporty compact is stretched several inches and given rounded contours as part of the 1992 redesign, and is available as a convertible, sedan or coupe with either a four-cylinder or inline-six engine. The 318ti hatchback bows for 1995. More powerful engines debut across the line in 1996, and are upgraded once again on the coupe and convertible in 1998.
