The 650i debuted in 2006 as an update to the 645Ci, featuring a larger engine and a stunning exterior and interior design. Coming from a long line of high-end coupes and sedans, the 650i is focused more on performance than economy, and sets a high bar in the luxury segment.

A wealth of upgrade packages can drive the bottom line up quickly, but customization is a BMW tradition that creates the ultimate driving experience. This year's model continues with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and state-of-the-art comfort and entertainment features.

Major changes included:

In 2012, after a one-year hiatus, the 650 returned with all-new styling that included a larger kidney grille that slanted outward slightly, V-shaped ridges on the hood, rearward-flowing headlights, stretched taillights and a leaner backside. A twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque resided under the hood, and was mated to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, an optional six-speed manual transmission returned to the 650 in 2012. For 2013, BMW bumped the V8's power to 445 horsepower, but once again dropped the manual transmission option.

After a 14-year absence, the BMW 6 Series returned for a second generation in 2004 with the release of the 645 Ci, which featured a sleek, rounded body and a 4.4-liter V8 engine with 325 horsepower. In 2006, the 650 replaced the 645 Ci, and with that change came a new 4.8-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque. The 2008 model ushered in a new sport-oriented automatic transmission in place of the optional manual transmission.
