BMW's 750 slots above the 740 within the brand's flagship full-size luxury sedan lineup. For 2011 it comes in 750i and long-wheelbase 750Li models with either rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive. Smooth, instant power comes from a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 making 400 hp and bolted to a ZF-designed 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Upgrades over the well-equipped 740 include a power trunk lid, keyless ignition/entry, soft-close automatic doors, and 14-way multicontour front seats with adjustable lumbar and side bolsters and upgraded leather.
Other standard features are a HDD-based navigation system with real-time traffic, a 10-speaker audio system and BMW Assist emergency telematics. At $84,300 to start the model is still less expensive than a base Mercedes-Benz S-Class, though pricey options can quickly add thousands more. Fuel economy comes in at 15 city/22 highway for the 750i, 14/22 mpg for the 750Li and 14/20 mpg for xDrive models of both wheelbase sizes.
