BMW M6 Model Years

Research by Year
, Automotive Editor -

While most automotive enthusiasts in the U.S. are familiar with the second-generation (2006-2010) and third-generation (2013-present) of the BMW M6, many may be surprised to learn the original high-performance 6 Series also made it to U.S. shores.

Though the first M6 was produced in Germany from 1983 to 1989, none of the coupes crossed the pond until 1988, giving the model a short life on American car lots. With its resurrection in 2006, and again in 2013, the M6 has come to offer over 500 horsepower and serene comfort as well. The latest model can be had in as a coupe or convertible.

Major changes included:

The midsize coupe from BMW's performance division, the 2006-2010 M6 packed a V10 engine with 500 horsepower paired with a seven-speed sequential-shift manual transmission. With its lower weight and squatter body, the coupe offered even greater performance than the similarly-equipped M5 sedan. A convertible was added to the line in 2007.
