Apple's iPhone has become such a large player in the smartphone industry that automakers have been quickly trying to make their vehicle infotainment systems more compatible with it. Nearly every car on the market offers Bluetooth connectivity that allows any Bluetooth-enabled phone to be used hands-free with the car's audio system – and many models above the $25,000 mark have standard Bluetooth.
Moving higher up the technological ladder, some models are specially equipped to connect to iPhones with a USB cable or specific iPhone connector. And finally, more models are enabled to stream your music on your iOS device via Bluetooth. The models below all have some level of iPhone/iPod connectivity:
- Acura: ILX, TSX, TL, RL, RDX, MDX, ZDX all have USB connector and iPod control, with phonebook support.
- Audi: S4, A5/S5, A6, A7, A8, Allroad, Q5, Q7, R8 and most versions of A3 and A4. Top levels of Audi's MMI system offer streaming audio and hotspot connection.
- BMW: 5-series, 6-series, 7-series, X3, X5, X6 and most versions of 1-series, 3-series, X1 and Z4 have Enhanced Bluetooth which allows for streaming audio and integrated phone functions.
- Buick: Verano, LaCrosse, Regal and Enclave offer IntelliLink that offers streaming audio through iPhone's Pandora app and Bluetooth.
- Cadillac: CTS, SRX, Escalade, ATS and XTS have Bluetooth, but CUE system offers streaming audio and full iPhone connectivity.
- Chevrolet: Some versions of Spark and Sonic, most versions of Cruze, Malibu, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Traverse and Equinox. All Volts.
- Chrysler: Town & Country and 300 and most versions of 200.
- Dodge: Most versions of Dart, Avenger, Charger, Challenger, Journey and Durango.
- Fiat: All models except for some Pop trim levels.
- Ford: Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Taurus, Mustang, Escape, Edge, Explorer, Flex, Expedition, F-150
- Honda: Some versions of Fit, Civic, CR-Z, Insight, Accord, CR-V, Pilot, Odyssey, Ridgeline
- Hyundai: Most Accents, Elantras, Velosters, Sonatas and Genesis Coupes, Tucsons, Santa Fes and all Azeras, Genesis sedans, Equus.
- Infiniti: G Coupe, G Sedan, M, EX, FX, JX, QX56
- Jaguar: XF, XJ, XK
- Jeep: Most Compass, Patriot, Liberty, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models.
- Kia: All levels of Rio, Forte, Optima, Optima Hybrid, Sportage, Soul, Sorento and Sedona.
- Land Rover: Most versions of LR2 and all levels of LR4, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover.
- Lexus: Bluetooth standard on CT, IS, ES, GS, LS, RX, GX and LX.
- Lincoln: Standard on MKS, MKT, MKX, MKZ and Navigator.
- Mazda: Some versions of the 3, 5, 6, Miata, CX-5 and CX-9. Usually standard on Grand Touring trims.
- Mercedes-Benz: C, E, S, GLK, GL, ML, G, SL, SLK, CL and CLS classes come with standard Bluetooth. Most have streaming audio, USB inputs and iPod integration.
- Mini: Bluetooth and iPhone integration is optional on all models. Optional MINI Connected offers smartphone apps and streaming audio through Pandora. All models have USB and aux inputs.
- Mitsubishi: Bluetooth is optional on most Lancer, Lancer Evolution, Outlander, Outlander Sport and i models, but is unavailable on the lowest trim levels. USB inputs are also available, but not always standard.
- Nissan: iPod interface available through USB input on some models like Altima, as well as Bluetooth streaming audio. Bluetooth is optional on all Versa, Cube, Sentra, Juke, Maxima, Rogue, Pathfinder, Xterra, Armada, Titan, Quest and 370Zs.
- Porsche: Porsche Communication Management integrates iPhone functions, but is optional on most Boxters, Caymans, 911s, Panameras and Cayennes, typically standard on high-end Turbo models. USB/iPod input with full iPod control is standard, as is Bluetooth with full call integration.
- Scion: Bluetooth is standard on all iQ, FR-S, xD, xB and tC models as are USB/aux inputs. But streaming Bluetooth is optional on most models. Pandora integration is also optional.
- Smart: Bluetooth is optional, comes with navigation system.
- Subaru: Navigation system offered on 2013 Legacy and Outback, and Impreza, WRX and Forester models features iPod control, text messaging and Bluetooth with streaming audio.
- Toyota: Models equipped with Entune system allow full iPhone connectivity, with an option to create a hotspot using cellular connection. Non-Entune cars get USB/iPod control and most offer Bluetooth as an option.
- Volkswagen: Bluetooth is standard on top-trim cars, but optional on more basic versions of Jetta, Golf/GTI, Beetle, Passat, Tiguan, Routan and CC. iPod/iPhone connection comes in the form of an optional MDI 30-pin connector.
- Volvo: XC90 features Bluetooth as standard, as do all 2012 Volvos. C30 and C70 offer USB connectivity, but S60, XC60, XC70 and S80 go further with optional navigation system that incorporates many phone functions.
