Chrysler Group's UConnect touchscreen infotainment system has evolved nicely over the last few years, now offering advanced smartphone connectivity, voice control and other neat features. Debuting soon on the 2013 RAM 1500 and 2013 SRT Viper, UConnect will get its biggest overhaul yet with the introduction of UConnect Access. The next RAM and Viper will feature a heavily upgraded infotainment platform with an 8.4-inch touchscreen and built-in cellular voice and data connection service from Sprint, opening up a whole new world of possibilities. Now you'll be able to make calls and send texts even if you left your cellphone at home, its battery is dead, or you don't even own one.
UConnect Access features upgraded voice control with natural speech commands for controlling navigation, texting, music and calling. You'll find a built-in WiFi hotspot for all your devices, and Chrysler is working with designers on growing list of apps bearing the official stamp of approval. One potentially lifesaving safety feature: an emergency button that opens communication with emergency response officials and alerts them of your location. If Chrysler really nails the user interface, UConnect Access could become the top system on the market for features that are as useful as they are fun to play with. More Chrysler vehicles will get the system soon, including the new Dodge Dart.
