In safety news from Nissan: "The Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication technology is aimed at reducing acceleration accidents in parking lots and other spaces where a car could collide with walls if a driver mistakenly depresses the accelerator instead of the brake pedal."

Nissan's promising new tech, coming first to the Japanese-market Nissan Elgrand MPV, should do wonders to prevent those nasty low-speed collisions that occur in parking lots and other tight spaces. By harnessing the company's best-in-class Around View camera and sensor system, the Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication with Carpark Detection Function can automatically brake or adjust throttle input to avoid a collision with nearby objects by "seeing" parking spaces and obstructions.

Press the gas instead of the brake, or give too much gas, and you'll no longer end up nose-first into the parking space divider, or the Aston Martin DB9 in the next spot.

The new technology, which we'll probably see on Infiniti models very soon, is part of Nissan's holistic Vision Zero safety program, seeking to take steps to eliminate traffic fatalities and lessen the severity of accidents during all stages of the driving experience.
