Volkswagen's stable of navigation systems can get confusing, with 3 different systems each offering different core features, so make sure you know exactly what you're getting for your dollar. Connectivity features outpace most competitors in the non-luxury world, with satellite and HD radio and an innovative multi-use port with swappable connector cables for all your drives and devices. Standard audio systems sound quite good with 8 speakers on most models, and the optional Fender premium systems are even better. In general VW offers generous standard interior accommodations, though options can quickly cause those newly lowered base prices to shoot way up.

Navigation/Infotainment Package Specific to Manufacturer

  • Connectivity and entertainment features outpace most competitors in the non-luxury world, but do not reach the level of Ford’s SYNC. You won’t find advanced features, like Bluetooth, on the lower trim levels within several model lines.

Car Audio

  • VW has partnered with Fender for some of its premium audio offerings, and their sound quality is hard to match among bread-and-butter carmakers. Premium audio requires upgrading to the higher trim levels, and most systems feature a touchscreen interface even without adding navigation.
  • Interface: Hardware buttons and dials, touchscreen
  • Speakers: Most models 8 speakers standard (Jetta: 4 speakers standard)
  • Available inputs: MDI digital audio connection with 30-pin dock, USB/Mini-USB/iPod, auxiliary audio 3.5-mm, Bluetooth A2DP streaming audio
  • Other features: SIRIUS satellite radio, HD radio

Car Video

  • Screens: Rear seat entertainment system with 9-inch LCD video screen
  • DVD/Blu-Ray Capability: DVD
  • Back Up Cameras: Available on some models.

Car Gaming

  • Video game consoles supported: Major game consoles
  • Input jacks:  A/V input, AC electrical outlet

Computers

  • Mobile/Rolling hotspot: N/A
  • Smartphone-based data connection: N/A

Navigation

  • VW offers 3 different navigation systems offered throughout its model range, each with different features. Make sure to ask if the one you are paying for has the features you want, as some individual models are available with more than one navigation system.
  • Official Name: RNS 315, RNS 510, RNS 810
  • Price Range:  In most cases, offered as standard equipment on higher trim levels.
  • Interface: Touchscreen, control wheel, hardware buttons for commonly used functions
  • Features: 2D and 3D maps, real-time traffic (some models)
  • Available On: All models, features vary by model.

Safety Technology

  • Intelligent Crash Response System

Bluetooth Hands-Free

  • Bluetooth hands-free calling is available on all VW model lines, but often unavailable on the lower trim levels.
