A Cadillac Escalade that sips gas? Not quite, but in hybrid form the luxe SUV gets downright respectable mileage: 21 mpg in combined city and highway driving, even with all-wheel drive. Offered since 2009, the Escalade Hybrid is powered by a 6-liter gasoline V8 with automatic cylinder deactivation and a pair of electric motors. Cadillac estimates total output at 379 horsepower, about 25 shy of the standard engine.
Bundled with the hybrid powerplant are a handful of upgrades such as 22-inch chrome wheels, a sunroof and bright exterior details—all of which help justify the nearly $10,000 premium over the base model.
