January 27, 2012

If you need to move across the country or even overseas, you'll probably want to use the services of a car transport or shipping company to help you get your car to your new location. You might also to use the services of one of these companies if you purchase a vehicle in a faraway location.

However, before you get a car shipping quotes or enlist the services of a truck or car shipping company, you might want to know how the type of vehicle that you older purchase will affect the amount you need to pay to ship your vehicle.

How Car Shipping Prices Are Determined

Generally speaking, there are three primary factors will that will affect the amount you need to pay to ship your vehicle to a remote location: distance, vehicle weight and the value of the vehicle. The type of vehicle that you own or wish to ship doesn't matter nearly so much as the value and weight of the vehicle.

There are times, however, that the size of the vehicle may affect shipping prices as well. For instance, if you own a particularly large SUV or pickup truck that takes up a lot of space on a vehicle transport trailer or container, you may be required to pay additional surcharges. Regardless of the size of the vehicle, heavier vehicles will always be costlier to ship than lighter vehicles.

Specialty Car Considerations

Other types of vehicles that may be particularly expensive to ship would be specialty vehicles such as antique or classic cars. The reason for this is that they are more expensive to insure and damage that may occur during shipping will usually be more expensive to repair. Furthermore, replacement costs for these types of vehicles can be very expensive. Therefore, car shipping companies usually charge a premium for these types of vehicles.
