A diesel engine is what makes a diesel car a diesel car. The car is in fact pretty much the same as its gasoline counterparts, except for what is under the hood. Instead of a gasoline engine, there is a diesel engine system. A diesel engine can make a huge difference in your car's performance and fuel economy. Diesel engines are typically V6 or greater engines, and for that, they provide more power. Diesel engines also offer more torque while driving as well. One would logically think this would make the car less fuel efficient, however it is not true. Diesel car fuel is actually 30 to 35% more efficient than gasoline is. This will save you on fuel cost, and allow you to get more miles per gallon out of your car. This is one of the biggest reasons why they are gaining popularity. Gasoline prices have rose over the past 10 years, and as oil gets used, the price will only go up. Diesel can be made synthetically, or even from corn. Diesel is priced around the same as gas, but offers more fuel economy. Even if it were priced higher, it would have to be 30 to 35% higher to equal your gasoline fuel costs, and it is not. Diesel cars are gaining popularity, and are staples in Europe. Soon they will be more common in the United States, because right now, only certain states allow diesel cars on their roads due to being a dirtier emission than gasoline is.
