March 16, 2010

If you've been in an accident and have sustained an injury or other types of damage, you'll need to file a car injury claim with your insurance policy provider right away to ensure the matter is dealt with in the proper legal manner. Many companies allow you to file an insurance claim online in order to save time. Regardless of whether you file in person, over the phone or an online injury claim, you should always drive with the knowledge of the information you'll need to collect in the event of an accident, and know how to go about filing one of these claims should you experience this. This will help to ensure you don't face any legal ramifications in addition to the injury, and other damages that you've suffered as a result of the car accident. Read on for instructions on how to submit a car injury claim online.

Step 1 -- At the Scene of the Accident, Collect All of the Necessary Information

Before you leave the scene of the accident, be sure to communicate with all of the other drivers who were involved in the collision. You'll need to collect certain important pieces of information from them before you can proceed. After you've ensured anyone who is injured receives the proper medical treatment, speak with each driver and find out: the make and model of the vehicle, the number of passengers in the car during the collision, the license plate number, the damage to the vehicle and where on the car it was located, their insurance provider and insurance policy number, and their name and contact information. Write this information down and keep it in a safe place.

Step 2 -- Access the Insurance Provider Website

If your insurance company allows you the opportunity to file for insurance claims related to car injuries online, you can then go to a computer and access your insurance provider's website to file this claim. Once you've accessed the site, look for links to file a claim online. Proceed to those links and follow the instructions there in order to fill in all of the necessary information. You'll need information about your insurance policy and the damage to your vehicle, as well as those of all of the other drivers who were involved in the accident, so it's a good idea to keep the information you collected handy.

Step 3 -- Wait to Speak with a Representative

Next, a representative from your insurance provider company will call you or communicate online to help determine the liability and fault in the collision you've reported. Answer the questions truthfully and admit if you don't remember the answer or are unsure.

You may also need to get your vehicle inspected by a company that the insurance provider recommends to you. This is in order to get a good damage estimate for the cost of the damage to your vehicle.
