Is PLPD Car Insurance Right for You?

PLPD car insurance is a type of auto insurance policy that provides coverage to you in the event that your vehicle causes injury or death to a third party or damage to a third party's property. PLPD is an acronym for Public Liability and Property Damage. Public Liability and Property Damage insurance is the minimum amount of liability and property damage auto insurance most states require you to have to legally drive a vehicle.

When Is PLPD Insurance Right for You?

As PLPD insurance only focuses on liability coverage for vehicles and property of other people, it is considered cheap or low-cost insurance because it is less expensive than standard and full coverage auto insurance policies.

However, PLPD car insurance may be right for you in the following situations:

• If you do not drive your vehicle on a regular basis.
• If you own a vehicle which is very old or has a low value.
• If you are driving a vehicle on temporary basis.
• If you want to save money on auto insurance or cannot afford full coverage for your vehicle.

Limitations of PLPD Car Insurance

Even though PLPD covers the expenses caused by damage to other people and their property, in the case of an accident caused due to your vehicle, it offers no coverage for your vehicle's damage. This could prove to be risky if your vehicle is involved in even a minor accident. PLPD insurance is definitely not an alternative to standard auto insurance and should be issued only in situations where full coverage insurance is not necessary.

Having too little insurance is an obvious problem, but paying too much for coverage which you don't need can also be a problem. Since insurance is not a "one size fits all" proposition, you need to have the right amount of insurance coverage that fits your needs and your budget.
