The best method for reporting uninsured drivers is to mail, fax or email your insurance company, motor vehicle department and police. If available, have a police officer or traffic aide make a report, documenting the other party's lack of insurance paperwork. If a police representative does not visit the accident scene, get as much information as possible about the vehicle and driver, and report it to police. Also check with your state motor vehicle department about reporting the suspected uninsured driver. Many states have forms you can use for this purpose. For example, Maryland has them on its Motor Vehicle Administration website. This will assist you in documenting the problem with your insurance company for applying your own coverage against uninsured drivers, if you have it. Even without an accident occurring, you can still report suspected uninsured drivers by following instructions from your state.
